Codes and Conventions

Hello my name is Abby from Whitley Bay High School and this is my blog! 

I am about to create a music magazine like Q however firstly I am creating a school magazines a preliminary task.

Most of the school magazines have the classic codes and conventions. 

For example most of the magazines have a large image of happy students. This is the case because all schools want to promote their school in a happy positive way to try and attract people to that school. For my school magazine i am also going to have happy smiling children on the front of my magazine because i think it makes the magazine more appealing and more importantly shows the school off in a positive light.

Another code and convention of school magazines is the use of 3 colours, this is apparent in the Greenfields school magazine for example white, green and navy are the main colours that are used which stand out and contrast each other. Similarly the colours may link with the uniform that the children wear. I am going to do this with my school magazine because i think it looks professional and i am going to use colours that aren't related to a certain gender, so the magazine appeals to a wide audience.

Most school magazines also show a small picture and headline of a story that will appear inside. This is because it draws the reader in and makes them want to read more! I am going to also include this in my magazine because I want it to look as professional as possible and I want people to actually wish to read my magazine!

Another code and convention of a typical school magazine is the use of different pictures and and minor headlines to attract people to keep reading instead of just looking at the front. Also having different stories adds depth to the front cover and makes it a lot more interesting. I have done this with my magazine because it makes the cover much more interesting and makes it look like more of a professional magazine rather than an amateurs magazine!
